“At least take good care of yourselves and don't rely so much on others.”

Susana CHUNG
Retired Civil Servant

Origin - Hong Kong

In 1969 Mrs. Susana Chung accompanied her friend to come and study a Nursing course in the UK. However, she never became employed as a nurse after completing the course. Instead, she got married right after her graduation and was busy caring for her children. After the birth of her second son she and her husband opened a Chinese take-away in the hopes of providing a better future for their children. On her first visit to London’s Chinatown, Chung was most excited to see Chinese shops and Chinese signs in a foreign land. The Chinese blood in her recognized this home away from home. To her, Chinatown represents all Chinese in the UK, Susanna believes that every Chinese involved in Chinatown should take good care of it and make a positive impression on others to earn great respect for the Chinese.
