“I encourage young people as if they were my children. I encourage them not to get addicted to bad habits (gambling addiction). Do not ever get involved in the bad habits like those older Chinese. We should be disciplined and look after our health.”

Tit Ying TANG
Retired Restaurant Business Owner

Origin - Hong Kong

In the 1960s feeling the unrest and difficulties because of the riot in Hong Kong, Mr; Tit Ying Tang left his family and came over to the UK by himself in 1968. As he wasn’t involved in any bad habits and saved every single penny, four years later after he got his permanent residency, he applied his wife and children to join him in the UK. He even managed to open two restaurants. As a business owner he then joined the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, where he has been elected six times to be their chairman. He organised field trips to different countries for their members. He also helped set up the Chinese school from scratch and with the help of his wife, the school has expanded from a small class of ten to a nearly 300 students graduating each year. Since then over ten thousand young Chinese have learned the Chinese language, making it possible for Chinese families to continue learning their mother tongue in the UK.
