Mr. Lee Yan set off for Hong Kong to escape from the famine in China in 1962. In order to improve his standard of living, he accepted a job offer in the UK. For more than 30 years, Lee worked in different takeaway shops and restaurants. He mentioned in the interview, that his suggestion to his boss to lower the cost of making curried beef was a highlight in his career. Lee’s biggest regret in life is that he doesn’t speak English, which caused limitations in his career and daily life. With his own experience as an example, Lee encouraged his grandson to learn English.
